If there is one thing we’ve learned being in the military is that “penciled in” pretty much doesn’t mean anything. Haha. So many times you are told one thing and I’ve learned enough times that until we actually receive Chris’ written orders, it isn’t sure… and even then, that can be changed at the very last minute.
And we’ve finally received our written orders.
Chris asked me the other day, “Are you going to update people?” I feel like I need to write this post as I’ve been receiving several messages and emails and it pretty much involves me explaining this each time. As I had mentioned, we were “penciled in” for Dakar, and a week ago Chris’ detailer called him and told him that they had new orders for him to fill quicker. Quicker, as in the beginning of February in Libreville, Gabon. Where is Libreville, Gabon you ask? It is still West Africa, but more central west. I’m attaching a map below. Its approximately a little smaller than Colorado. Its right near the equator and very beautiful, tropical rainforest looking.
The kids are so excited, always up for an adventure. And it has Elephants … Noah is over the moon!
Actually, we are all pretty excited about it but I’m also overwhelmed with all that needs to be done before we leave the states in 4.5 months. Our adoption (we have BIG news about that), schooling, and planning our new life overseas. Currently, we are in a temporary house for a month in Ohio while Chris is in classes. He comes home and gives me as many details about our new adventure as he can, and then he continues to study after the kids go to bed. Its a steep learning curve for sure… and he hasn’t even started French! We will be putting Camille in the International School this year, but right now I’m homeschooling her and focusing mostly on her learning French.
We will spend our final two months back in Virginia, saying goodbye to friends and family. While it seems to all be happening fast, its all working out perfectly. We are blessed.
